Abstract

Poster presented June 4, 2026, at the Nursing Knowledge Big Data Science Conference held in Minneapolis.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe a nursing-led virtual care collaboration in prevention of patient deterioration and discuss strategies for sustainability and scalability.
  2. Identify measurable clinical, operational, and financial outcomes associated with proactive virtual nursing and Early Intervention Team (EIT) models.

Introduction:  Hospitals continue to face rising patient acuity, staffing shortages, and an increasing proportion of early-career nurses at the bedside. Internally, less experienced nurses (Figure 1), concerns for recognition and response to patient deterioration, and siloed workflows hindered early escalation and safe care delivery. These challenges necessitated a scalable, nursing-centered approach capable of enhancing clinical oversight and supporting bedside teams without adding burden.
