Abstract

Building Informatics and information technology competency is a priority.  Health care work is reliant upon the ubiquitous technology used everyday, but nurses entering the workforce are not prepared and lack informatics competencies needed.  Competency deficits were found in a pretest of informaticists in a facility in the Southeast US. Brunner et al (2017) in a 3-phase study identified the need for education and curriculum reform to reinforce eHealth capability and reduce the gap between academia and application.  Significant gaps in preparedness of nursing students and graduates is a growing concern. Barriers exist to integrating technology into curricula as reported by administrators and faculty.
